Frequently asked questions

What does Studio Veld do?

Studio Veld is a design and communications studio based in Adelaide. We work across brand, print, digital, websites, UX and UI, content, communications, video and strategic design.

Our work often sits at the point where design, information and people meet. That might be a website that helps users find the right answer quickly, a campaign that needs to feel clear and compelling, or a brand system that helps an organisation communicate with more confidence.

What kind of clients do you work with?

We work with organisations that need thoughtful, well-crafted design and clear communication. Our clients include government, property, architecture, planning, professional services, community organisations and businesses with complex stories to tell.

We are especially well suited to projects where the message matters, the audience is specific, and the work needs to be both beautiful and useful.

Are you a branding studio, a website studio or a communications studio?

All of the above, depending on what the project needs.

Some clients come to us for a single piece of work, such as a brochure, website or campaign. Others work with us more strategically across brand, content, digital systems and communications.

We do not see these as separate boxes. A strong website needs good content. A good campaign needs clear messaging. A useful brand needs to work in the real world.

Do you work with clients outside Adelaide?

Yes. While Studio Veld is based in Adelaide, we work with clients around the world! We are comfortable working remotely, in person, or as a mix of both depending on the project.

Do you work with existing brands?

Yes. We often work within existing brand systems, especially for government, established organisations and larger project teams.

We can follow existing guidelines closely, extend a visual language where needed, or help refine the way a brand appears across specific communications, websites or campaigns.

Do you create new brands?

Yes. We develop brand identities, messaging frameworks, visual systems and supporting collateral.

This can include logo design and logo suites with primary and secondary lockups, typography, colour palettes, image direction, tone of voice, brand guidelines, templates and launch materials. Some clients need the full system, while others need something more modest to get a new venture off the ground.

Do you start with the brand or the website?

We almost always start with the brand. It is the foundation, and once it is settled, decisions about the website, the tone of voice and everything else become much easier. Building a website on an unresolved brand tends to create more work later, so we prefer to get the groundwork right first.

Do you run workshops or speak to groups?

Yes, and we enjoy this part of the work, from brand building workshops for young entrepreneurs through to professional development sessions for creative communities. If you have a group who would benefit from a session on brand, content or websites, we are happy to have a conversation.

How does a project usually start?

Most projects begin with a conversation. We want to understand what you are trying to achieve, who the work is for, what already exists, what needs to change, and what success looks like.

From there, we usually prepare a proposal that outlines the recommended approach, scope, deliverables, timing and cost.

Do you offer strategy before design?

Yes. Many projects benefit from a strategic discovery phase before design begins.

This might include stakeholder workshops, audience mapping, content review, messaging, user research, UX planning or communications strategy. The aim is to make sure the design work is solving the right problem from the beginning.

Can you work from a clear brief?

Yes. If you already have a strong brief, approved content and clear direction, we can work from that.

If the brief needs shaping, we can help with that too. A good brief often saves time, reduces rework and leads to better outcomes.

What happens if we are not sure what we need yet?

That is common, and you do not need to have everything worked out before you speak with us.

We can help define the project, identify what is essential, and recommend a staged approach if there are unknowns. Sometimes the first piece of work is simply getting clarity.

Do you manage the whole project?

Yes, where required. We can manage the creative process from strategy through to delivery, including design, content, digital production, client reviews and final asset preparation.

We also work well as part of a broader team, alongside internal marketing teams, developers, photographers, videographers, consultants and project managers.

Do you design and build websites?

Yes. We design and develop websites, from simple business sites through to more complex digital platforms.

Our digital work can include UX and UI design, content structure, front-end design, custom development, integrations and ongoing support.

What platform do you build websites on?

It depends on the project and what will serve you best over time. We often build in WordPress, particularly when a client needs a backend their own team can manage without a manual, and we also take on custom builds where that is the better fit. We are happy to talk through the options and recommend the one that suits the way you actually work.

Do you do UX and UI design?

Yes. UX and UI are a core part of our digital work.

We focus on how people move through information, what they need to do, and how the interface can make that easier. This might include user journeys, wireframes, prototypes, interface design and usability improvements.

Can you improve an existing website?

Yes. We can review, redesign, restructure or rebuild an existing website depending on what is needed.

Sometimes a full rebuild is the right answer. Other times the best result comes from improving content, navigation, templates, user experience or key pages. Deciding between a refresh and a rebuild usually comes back to where your business is heading rather than where it has been, and we are glad to help you weigh it up. We have written a little more about this on our blog.

Will my website work properly on phones and be accessible?

Yes. We design for the way people actually browse, which today means phones as much as desktops. Accessibility is part of how we work rather than an added extra, so we build in things like keyboard-friendly navigation, meaningful alt text and clear focus states. A website should welcome as many people as possible.

Do you look after SEO, and what about AI search?

Yes, and the two now sit side by side. Alongside good old-fashioned SEO, we pay attention to how newer AI search tools read and understand a site. That can mean adding clear structure and markup so your content can be found and quoted accurately. The aim is for people, and the tools they use, to find the right answer quickly.

Why do you make such a point of FAQs?

Because a clear, well-structured FAQ quietly earns its keep. It helps your customers find what they need without hunting, and it helps search engines and AI assistants understand your business and answer questions about it. For years the FAQ was the afterthought added at the end. That has changed, and we now treat it as part of the plan. The page you are reading is our own version of that idea.

Can you write website content?

Yes. We can write, edit and structure website content.

This can include page content, messaging, calls to action, service descriptions, project profiles, articles and campaign copy. We aim for content that feels clear, useful and aligned with the way your organisation actually speaks.

Can you work with our existing developer or internal team?

Yes. We regularly collaborate with internal teams and external developers.

We can provide design systems, page designs, content structures, front-end assets, UX documentation or creative direction to support an existing build process.

Do you design printed materials?

Yes. We design printed collateral including brochures, prospectuses, reports, signage, capability statements, information packs, campaign material and presentation documents.

We can also manage artwork preparation and liaise with printers where needed.

Do you create campaigns?

Yes. We develop campaign concepts, messaging, design systems and campaign assets across print and digital.

This can include launch campaigns, project campaigns, social media creative, digital ads, outdoor, email marketing and stakeholder communications.

Do you create video or animation?

Yes. We can help with video direction, storytelling, content planning, editing, motion graphics and animation.

Depending on the project, we may create video assets directly or collaborate with specialist videographers and production partners.

Do you provide social media content?

Yes. We can develop social media content as part of a campaign or broader communications plan.

This may include post copy, visual templates, launch assets, content calendars and guidance for how a campaign should roll out.

How much does a project cost?

Costs depend on the scope, complexity, timing and level of involvement required.

A small design project may be quoted as a fixed fee. Larger projects are usually scoped in stages so the process is clear and manageable. Where there are unknowns, we may recommend an initial discovery phase before providing a fixed quote for later stages.

How much does a website cost?

As a rough guide, a website project with us usually starts at around $5,000 and grows from there with scope, complexity and the features you need. That starting point reflects the discovery, design, build and care that go into a site that genuinely works for your business.

We will always provide a clear, fixed quote once we understand the project. If a full website is more than you need right now, we are happy to suggest a smaller first step, such as a landing page.

Do you offer fixed fees?

Yes. Most projects are quoted as fixed fees based on an agreed scope of work.

If the scope changes, or additional work is requested, we will discuss this before proceeding, so there are no surprises.

Can we start small?

Yes. Many good working relationships begin with a focused first project.

That might be a discovery workshop, a website audit, a campaign concept, a small piece of collateral or a content strategy. Starting small can be a useful way to build trust and clarify what is needed next.

How long does a project take?

Timing depends on the type of project, the number of stakeholders, the approval process and how much content is required.

As a guide, a focused design project may take a few weeks. A website, brand identity or larger campaign may take several months. We will always outline expected timing in the proposal.

What do you need from us to get started?

Usually we need a clear contact person, any existing brand assets or guidelines, relevant background information, known deadlines, and an understanding of who will approve the work.

For content-heavy projects, we will also need to understand what content exists, what needs to be written, and who is responsible for reviewing it.

Do you provide ongoing support?

Yes. We can provide ongoing design, digital, content and communications support after a project is complete.

Some clients work with us on a project-by-project basis. Others engage us for ongoing support across campaigns, website updates, collateral, content and design needs.

How do you manage website and digital support requests?

We use a Studio Veld support ticketing system to help manage digital and website support clearly and efficiently.

This gives clients a simple way to lodge requests, track what has been asked for, and keep support work moving without it getting lost across emails, calls or multiple team members.

It also helps our team prioritise work properly, understand what is urgent, and keep a clear record of updates, fixes and changes over time.

Do you offer retainers?

Yes. We offer ongoing support retainers for clients who need regular access to our team.

For teams with more complex digital systems, frequent content updates or a need for faster response times, we also offer a premium support retainer. This provides a more structured level of support through our Studio Veld ticketing system, with clearer priority handling and extended support capacity.

This is best suited to organisations that rely on their website or digital platforms as active working tools, rather than static online information.

Can we request support without a retainer?

Yes. We can usually provide support on a project-by-project or ad hoc basis, depending on availability.

For clients who need reliable, ongoing support, a retainer is generally the better option, because it gives both teams a clearer structure, smoother workflow and more predictable access to Studio Veld.

Will we be able to update our own website?

Where appropriate, yes. We aim to build websites and digital systems that are manageable for the people using them.

We can provide training, documentation or support so your team feels confident making everyday updates.

Do you hand over final files?

Yes. We provide final files in the agreed formats at the end of the project.

For brand and design work, this may include print-ready files, digital files, templates, guidelines or working files depending on the scope. For websites, handover usually includes access details, documentation and relevant assets.
